UPS Authentication Errors / Suspensions

The UserId is currently locked out / Invalid Access License number / The Shippers shipper number cannot be used for the shipment

Updated over a week ago

UPS: The UserId is currently locked out, please try again in 30 minutes / The Shippers shipper number cannot be used for the shipment

While fetching rates or attempting to ship an order in SKULabs, if you see one of these errors, this is a sign that your UPS account may be suspended. The most common cause of this issue is that your UPS credentials are incorrectly entered for your UPS account on SKULabs or EasyPost. Another potential cause is due to your payment information expiring.

What workarounds are there?

Automatically fallback to another carrier.
We always recommend maintaining multiple carrier accounts on SKULabs enabling you to continue operations while one carrier is suffering an outage or your account otherwise can't be used to create labels temporarily as you might be experiencing now.

Try WorldShip
You may want to try UPS WorldShip. It's easy to add tracking numbers to SKULabs just like a normal shipment, just choose "Manual - Shipment" as the shipping method and provide the tracking number so your seller statistics are unaffected and inventory is properly deducted.

Why does WorldShip work while SKULabs doesn't? This seems to be a regular occurrence and it's because UPS only puts a hold on a specific platform's use of your UPS account during these routine anti-fraud / anti-abuse holds.

How can I resolve this problem?

Follow these steps in order to restore access to your UPS account through SKULabs:

  1. Disable the UPS account in your carrier account settings on SKULabs. Repeated attempts to use your UPS account in this state will extend the lock out.

  2. Verify your UPS credentials and billing details have not changed or expired, and update them in SKULabs if they have.

  3. Contact UPS or call 1-800-742-5877 (1-800-PICK-UPS) to ask "what kind of hold has been placed on my account" because you're getting the error "The Shippers shipper number cannot be used for the shipment" while shipping using the UPS API.

  4. If you still can't use your UPS account on SKULabs, wait the indicated amount of time or 24 hours for the hold to be released and try again.

Additional details from the UPS.com website:

We're sorry you're having trouble logging in.  For security reasons you're locked out if you enter the wrong User ID and password combination 3 times within a 10 minute period. UPS representatives can't unlock the User ID. Please wait at least 30 minutes before trying to log in again, this includes if your password was just reset.

UPS error: Invalid Access License number

If you are receiving the following error while attempting to purchase a UPS label:

Error purchasing the shipment: Invalid Access License number

This error is provided directly from UPS, and typically means that the UPS account number has not been added to the customer's User ID profile.

How to resolve

  1. Go to www.ups.com, click log in, and log in with the API User ID and password.

  2. Click on the name on the top right-hand side and select Payment Options. Under the Add a Payment Method, select Add an Existing UPS Account. Follow the prompts on the screen.

Contact UPS directly

It is also recommended to contact UPS directly to ensure account credentials are still correct and valid. The UPS API support team can be contacted by filling out this form: https://www.ups.com/upsemail/input?requestId=gec&category=techsupport&topic=onlinetools&loc=en_US&WT.svl=SubNav

  1. Select "Technical Support" > "Developer Resources" on the first page.

  2. On the second page, make sure you select "Shipping" as the developer resource (select the Shipping option under the XML header within the dropdown).

  3. Put in the error message you are getting, and your question in the form.

It should take them 1 - 4 business hours, eastern time, to reply to inquiries and they will have further instructions on what needs to be done at that point.
