How items are assigned to locations automatically

Why are new locations being added to my warehouses?

Updated over 2 years ago

While stock can be manually added to items in SKULabs, each store's Initial stock import settings controls how channel stock imports into SKULabs and assigns items to warehouses and locations automatically.

You can access these options by going to Settings, selecting your store name, and clicking on the Initial stock import settings panel to expand it.

In certain cases, new warehouses or locations can be created automatically.

Import as new warehouse

This initial stock import setting allows you to specify a new warehouse to import stock into. Upon saving your store settings, the warehouse will be automatically created for you with its default location.

Shopify multi-warehouse import

If you are using Shopify multi-warehouse stock import, items will assign stock to:

  1. The default location of the first warehouse linked to that Store or Shopify location.

  2. A warehouse or location with a name matching the Shopify location (regardless of warehouse links). This is helpful if you want to prevent pushing stock to specific locations by using unlinked warehouses.

Location-based inventory

This method of tracking inventory allows granular locations within each warehouse. New locations will be added to the account’s default warehouse:

  • When stock is imported from a Shopify location that is either not linked to a warehouse and not found as a matching warehouse or location name.

  • When assigning stock to an item during manual item creation or when adding stock to an existing item.
